Scandanavian food: Copenhagen

After Oslo, we moved onwards to Copenhagen! We had an entire day to spend there and we took an excursion to Christianborg Palace. We were also able to see the statue of The Little Mermaid. Our tour guide explained to us that the story of the Little Mermaid wasn’t as nice as the Disney version. To sum up, the little mermaid ends up as sea foam because the Prince wasn’t really into her. Sad!

I had researched a restaurant called Tivoli Hallen and we were lucky enough to find it right near Tivoli, an amusement park. Perfect right?

The place was really nice and homely looking. It’s in a basement. It seemed a little quiet, except for a group seated close by. The lady that greeted us was extremely friendly and was excited when she heard we were on our honeymoon. She pointed out that the group in the table nearby was celebrating a couple that had just eloped.

Rus ordered a Carlsberg beer since Carlsberg actually originates in Copenhagen.

He also ordered the fried plaine dish as recommended by the friendly lady who worked there. It was actually very delicious!

I ordered the lamb meatballs which were great, especially atop the creamy sauteed spinach.

We weren’t used to the portions served to us the whole time. They seemed a lot smaller than what we’re used to seeing in the U.S. and it makes you wonder why this nation is so obese, eh? Maybe if restaurants cut down on the portions to something that won’t make you feel horribly bloated and sick, maybe…just maybe we’d lose some weight or at least control it. Also, what made me like the smaller portions is that I actually took the time to savor the food and appreciate it more so than if I had a huge plate of food sitting in front of me.

  1. I’m right with you on the restaurant portions. When I eat out I usually lose my appetite at the sight of the huge plate of food that I’m going to have to tackle. Even though I know I don’t have to eat it all, my tummy feels odd and I eat less than I was originally hungry for. The portions in your photos look like ones I could savor!
