About the Gastronomist

The Gastronomist is a blog written by Cristi Martin, a woman who obsessively photographs and documents her work in the kitchen. While she lived in New York City, her favorite place to contemplate life and love in the big city was Dean and Deluca. She also loves farmers markets, Whole Foods, container gardening and late night runs to Carl’s Jr. for a strawberry milkshake. The Gastronomist is located in sunny Long Beach, CA. Her culinary wonders originate from a tiny kitchen that is lacking in storage space for her various culinary accoutrement. Cristi is an avid photographer, dog lover, food connoisseur and crime fighter. Cristi’s food likes range from donuts and hot fudge sundaes to escargot and caviar. She dislikes Taco Bell, cilantro, crab and most fruits.

Cristi’s main influence is her grandmother who used to make the most magical flan ever.

Honorable Mention: Most of the photos on this blog have been made possible with the help of her wonderful lighting assistant, dish washer, home sous chef, food taster and all-around world’s best husband, Rus. Rus’ culinary likes include fish of all shapes, color and size, Del Taco and burritos (he is a burrito wizard) in general, Carl’s Jr. and a lot of Caesar salad. His food dislikes include but are not limited to: Eggs, garbanzo beans, jalapeno peppers and foods with weird textures.

The mission and goal of this blog is to share quick and ridiculously easy recipes that taste like a fine wine on a beer budget.

  1. really enjoyed your blog! my husband is a chef and is so tired from cooking all day, that it’s the last thing he wants to do when he comes home. I, on the other hand, am not a great cook at all. But I’m trying. Your recipes sound pretty easy to make, ingredients sound yummy too! I’m definitely trying something new for dinner tonight!
    Keep the recipes coming!
    Thanks, and welcome to L.A.!

  5. Hey,

I wanted to drop you a line saying how much Ive enjoyed picking through your blog these past few days, i really like your style of presenting the steps for a recipe, and the little bit of back story that accompanies each one.

I also wanted to get into contact to see if you would be willing to cross link with the site I work for, Devour.tv. Devour.tv is an Internet Television Network (essentially a collection of some fairly well produced video blogs) that focuses on the sentiment of Information through Entertainment. We just launched on June 8th with our coverage of the Red Carpet Event at the James Beard Awards with David Rosengarden as our interviewer.

If your interested in cross linking with us a link for The Gastronomist will appear in the lower left hand corner of relevant pages on Devour.tv based on meta tags assigned to each blog. In your case this is means you’ll show up along side our cooking shows in general. So come on by http://www.devourl.tv, check us out, and if your interested fire off an e-mail to me and I’ll get you on the roll.

    Thanks,
    Watson

  7. Christi, I discovered your blog by accident in January 2011. Then you stopped posting in March 2011. Are you ever going to post again???

    • Hi there, Anna. Yes, with working a full time job, having a 6 month old and going to college for my masters I’ve been neglecting the blog. I do have some recipes I’ve been meaning to add like my Mexican Shrimp Cocktail and our Horseradish Crumb Crust Filet Mignons. I’ll be updating very soon!!!!
